The Reef Starts Just Below the Surface

Northern Okinawa's best coral is shallow. On a calm day you can float above a living reef in three or four metres of water and see almost everything a diver sees — coral gardens, clouds of tropical fish, and often green sea turtles coming up to breathe. Snorkeling here is not a consolation prize for people who cannot dive; it is a genuinely good way to see this coastline.

Families with children, travellers who would rather stay at the surface, and partners of divers who want to share the same day on the water without getting certified. If you can float comfortably with a buoyancy vest, you can join. We take small groups and stay close, so nervous swimmers and first-timers get as much attention as they want — and confident swimmers are free to range.

Table corals and staghorn thickets, damselfish and butterflyfish in numbers, parrotfish grazing audibly on the coral, and — on a good day at the right site — green sea turtles resting on the bottom or surfacing right beside you. We pick the site each morning based on wind, tide and visibility, so you get the best of whatever the day is offering rather than a fixed itinerary.

Shallow Reefs, Small Groups

Everyone Floats

Buoyancy vests come as standard, so staying at the surface takes no effort and no swimming ability is assumed. Nervous swimmers stay within reach of a guide the whole time.

More

Family Friendly

Children are welcome with a parent, and the per-person rate drops from three guests up — which is why most of our snorkeling groups are families.

More

The Quiet North

Sheltered sites well away from the busy operators further south. We choose the spot each morning on wind, tide and visibility rather than running a fixed route.

More

Your Own Language

English, French, Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese — useful when the safety briefing involves children who need to understand it too.

Group of 3 or More

The per-person rate drops for groups of three and up, which makes this the usual choice for families. Children are welcome with a parent, and we keep everyone together in one shallow, sheltered area.
